My mind keeps drifting back to those sweltering Lagos afternoons while we were in the secondary school. The smell of chlorine, the sun beating down, and the pure, unadulterated joy of plunging into the swimming pool. We used to make the rounds of the Federal Palace, Airport, and Ikoyi Hotels. I remember all the splashing, diving, and flipping. I remember teaching you how to do a proper dive, which you eventually mastered. I remember your infectious smile, and the conversations over poolside snacks washed down with Coca-Cola, which, invariably, you funded. You never made me feel funny over your picking all the bills. I’ll forever cherish those memories.
Goodbye, my dear friend, who was more like a kid brother to me. You’ll be deeply missed.
This hurts!
